Old Testament
In Exodus and Leviticus we read that the priests had to keep the lamps in the temple burning. The Lord was very specific about the command that the fire on the altar was never to be allowed to go out. The concept of day-and-night prayer is rooted in the Scriptures. God watches over His people day and night (Psa 121) and in His Word He calls us up to watch with Him. In fact, Jesus told His disciples to watch, and to pray that they do not fall into temptation not to do so! Revelation 4-5 states that the angels and the 24 elders literally worship God day and night.
